Measuring Your Finished Opening

To make sure you get the right size door for your opening, print this page and simply fill in the blank squares by following the directions below.

Measuring your Finished Opening for a Single Swing Door

The Finished Opening is the clear opening inside your jamb after all finishing, trim & flooring has been completed.

Measure Opening Form Single Panel

If you are replacing an existing door remember - always measure the opening and not the door!

  1. Measure the height of your opening at each side
  2. Now measure the width of the opening at the top, middle and bottom to make sure that the opening width is constant. If the measurement is not constant (square & plumb) use the smallest measurement so the door will fit properly.
  3. Then, choose a left or right side hinge from the front of the door (the front side is the side facing dining room / customers).

As a reference when measuring your opening, print this PDF and fill in the dimension boxes with a dark pen.
