Frequently Asked Questions

Q. WHAT IS YOUR RETURN POLICY?

A. Take a look at our Return Policy.

Q. HOW DO I MEASURE MY ROUGH OPENING FOR HOLLOW AND METAL FRAMES?

A. Your rough opening is 2" wider and .75" higher than your actual finish opening size.

For example, if you order a Double Panel Aluminum Swinging Kitchen Door for an actual finish opening size of 58" high by 82" wide, your double hollow metal frame would also be sized 58" high by 82" wide.

Q. HOW DO YOU MEASURE A TRAFFIC DOOR?

A. Visit our "Measuring Your Opening" for detailed information on how to measure your opening.

Q. WHAT IS A TRAFFIC DOOR?

A. A traffic door is a double acting door that provides a barrier between two areas. This "barrier" can be visual, thermal, or both. "Double Acting" means that the door swings in either direction. Traffic doors are designed to be opened by impact. The type of traffic, the impact and the function that the door is to serve will help you to determine the product to be used.

Q. IS THERE ANOTHER NAME FOR A TRAFFIC DOOR?

A. Yes, the most common names are listed below:

  • Impact Doors
  • Double Acting Doors
  • Bump Doors
  • Swinging Doors
  • Sheet Doors
  • Double Swinging Doors

Q. WHY USE A TRAFFIC DOOR?

A. Traffic doors are an excellent choice for applications where a high volume of traffic exists and minimal infiltration is desired. Doors serve as a barrier. This barrier can be thermal, visual, sound, environmental, or secure.

Q. WHEN PURCHASING A TRAFFIC DOOR, PLEASE CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:

A. When purchasing a traffic door, please consider the following:

  1. What is the opening Size? (Width and Height of Opening)
  2. What type of traffic will be going through the door?
  3. What is the opening size in relation to the product passing through the opening?
  4. What is the traffic flow pattern going through the opening?
  5. Will the door be subject to wash-down or chemicals?
  6. Is the door being used for thermal separation?

What do you want the door to do?

  • Control temperature?
  • Visual barrier?
  • Hold up under abusive applications?
  • Provide a positive seal?

Answering the questions above can help you select the right door for your application. Give us a call, we would love to help as well!

Q. WHY DOES TRAFFIC FLOW MATTER?

A. The traffic flow pattern will:

  1. Help determine the product to be used
  2. Ensures unimpeded travel
  3. Ensures that the installation is safe
  4. Ensures that the product will perform properly

Q. HOW WIDE OF A LOAD CAN GO THROUGH THE OPENING?

A. Yes, you can purchase a flexible traffic door, upgrade to a more durable door, provide swing limiting posts, or automate the door.

Q. WHAT ARE THE JAMB REQUIREMENTS?

A. Double Acting Doors are opened by "impact". Some of the force of this impact is transferred to the frame. The frame must be designed to accept this impact. We recommend either using hollow metal frames that are reinforced at the hinge location or wood frames. We also have hollow metal frames available for purchase.
